STARTING SALARY: $51,402.00

Officers are responsible for the performance of general police work, and the protection of life and property through the enforcement of federal and state laws, and local ordinances.
Must be at least 21 years of age, and have not reached his/her 45th birthday; be a high school graduate or equivalent; of the highest character; possess social adaptability to deal with various types of people; of a manner and bearing suitable for police work; capable of passing a physical examination and must be licensed by the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE) no later than 45 days after the exam date.
Must pass a written Civil Service exam with a score of 70 or greater. Prospective applicants must register for the exam in person at the Galena Park Police Department, at 2207 Clinton Drive, Galena Park, Texas, before 5:00 P.M. Monday, July 31, 2019. A valid driver’s license must be presented in order to register.
A written competitive examination will be administered on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 2:30 PM at the Alvin D. Baggett Community Center, 1302 Keene Street, Galena Park, Texas. A valid State-issued photo I.D. is required for entry to the examination. The examination will consist of 100 items and will be two hours in length. Applicants who pass the exam will be placed on an eligibility list ranked by test score. The eligibility list remains in effect for six months, or until all eligible applicants have been hired, or disqualified. Persons wishing to be considered after the list expires must register and take the next entrance examination.
PRIOR MILITARY: Five additional points shall be added to the examination score of any applicant who:
- Served in the U.S. armed forces, and
- Received an honorable discharge, and
- Scores a passing grade on the examination.
